Parent-Infant Sessions

Babies are innately musical beings. Babies begin to hear sound and recognise your voice in utero from as early as 19 weeks. As pre-verbal beings, babies respond well to melody and sound as be seen in the “parentese” style in how adults communicate with little ones (coo-ing & following their intonation). Babies like to follow and mirror interactions of the voices and expressions of those close to them. They begin to make sense of the world in this musical way.

Working with a Music Therapist can help to facilitate parent-infant interactions and promote bonding and attachment. Music Therapy can be particularly helpful to those that are finding the early stages of having a newborn understandably complex in many ways, those that have experienced ‘baby blues’ or postpartum depression. Music Therapy can support adopted infants and children to connect and bond with their parents.

I can help you to navigate this time sensitively and thoughtfully, supporting you to bond with your baby using sound and musical play. Music Therapy is also a space for you to relax and enjoy the playful and special moments with your baby and to feel confident in reading and responding to your baby’s cues.

As a Paediatric Music Therapist, I have worked as a Neonatal Music Therapist in the NICU as have experience working with pre-term babies and their families in addition to infants that have experienced a long hospital admission since birth that are living alongside a health condition.
